GIRLS ON FIRE starts out strong, but quickly I became dubious due to the exaggerated use of vulgar language. The unceremonious use of the "c" word right away, constant f-bombs, and graphic sexual imagery end up cheapening the overall dark mood.
Book Review: 'Girls On Fire,' By Robin Wasserman Young adult author Robin Wasserman's new novel is definitely just for grown-ups — it's a tangled, thrilling story of two friends gone very wrong. A beautifully written piece about two grunge-era teen girls and the onset of their own ominous futures. Although the story is broken up into different 1st person narratives, it isn't hard to follow and there are even a couple of 3rd person chapters that flow quite nicely. My "Girls Girls Girls" jag continues with Girls On Fire, a foray into literary fiction by Robin Wasserman, who until the publication of this novel in , had been dipping in the Young Adult pool. This was my introduction to the author, whose skills handling a poison pen and translating the venom of teenage girls onto the page are admirable, but whose inability to trust an adult reader, tell a story and get out of her own way turn the kitchen into a mess.
